INTERMEDIATE COURSE IN MODERN TECHNIQUES FOR PHLEBOTOMY

Basic knowledge of venipuncture is recommended.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the student will:
Understand the concept of 'Universal Precautions'
Know safe 'best practices' for venipuncture
Be able to locate a suitable site for venipuncture
Choose the appropriate equipment to perform phlebotomy
Know and understand the correct 'order of draw' when multiple samples are required
Understand sources of pre-analytical error

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To instruct the student in the proper phlebotomy techniques according to National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) guidelines.
To make the student aware of the importance in procuring and transporting a proper specimen for laboratory analysis.
