PERIPHERAL BLOOD FILM EXAMINATION

Objective of this course is to provide a guideline for the microscopic assessment of peripheral blood films.  The content will include both descriptive and deductive morphology and emphasize reporting of predominant features.

COURSE CONTENT:
Review of Hematopoiesis and normal blood cell morphology
Guidelines for the microscopic assessment of the peripheral blood smear
Case studies: Erythrocyte and Leukocyte abnormalities
Blood Smear review criteria
Unknown case studies - self assessment and discussion

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe the features of normal and abnormal blood film morphology
Recognize and know the importance of leukocyte and erythrocyte abnormalities
Recognize significant morphological changes and know the clinical relevance
