CASE STUDIES IN BODY FLUID MORPHOLOGY

COURSE CONTENT:
Normal and abnormal cellular morphology seen in body fluids using Wrights stained preparations will be presented.
Case studies from fluids will be presented (i.e. synovial, CSF, pleural, pericardial, peritoneal).
Additional testing (multi-disciplinary) will be discussed (i.e. septic arthritis, crystal induced arthritis, meningitis, metastatic carcinoma, lymphomas, leukemia, tuberculosis).
A series of over 350 microscopic slide photographs will be presented.
Laboratory methodologies for analysis of fluids will be reviewed.
A review and self-test exam is included.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants in this visual workshop will:
Understand the important role analysis of body fluids plays in the diagnosis of disease.
Develop a better understanding of a multi-disciplined approach to analyzing body fluids.
Learn how to identify normal and abnormal cell components in various body fluids.
