2010 OSMT Conference and Trade Show
“Medicine in Motion”

The OSMT Conference program is packed with exceptional presentations and speakers that cover a broad spectrum of topics. There will be many opportunities to attend our Exhibitor Trade Show to discuss the latest advances.
Take advantage of this great opportunity for education and a chance to visit one of Ontario’s historic towns. The conference program and registration form are available on the OSMT website Education pages ( www.osmt.org) and in the summer issue of the OSMT Advocate publication. Remember, Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) may be eligible for reimbursement for professional development courses and/or programs (including the OSMT Conference) from the AHPDF.
Call for Case Studies
Interesting lab results happen all the time!
Interesting lab results happen all the time!
Laboratory personnel are encouraged to submit case studies for publication in the OSMT Advocate. Fifty dollars will be paid for each published study. Case studies can be submitted by individuals or as a laboratory group project. More details on how to submit case studies are available on the OSMT website Publications pages (www.osmt.org). If you have any questions about the requirements for submitting case studies, please contact the OSMT office at 1-800-461-6768.

The Professional Development Committee is in the process of revitalizing the OSMT’s continuing education programs. We are investigating a number of offerings including web-based access to medical journals for our members. At this time we are asking for your assistance in identifying which publications you feel are most relevant for your needs. Please take a few minutes to e-mail us your preferences at osmt@osmt.org or complete the attached faxback form and send it to 416-485-7660 by August 31, 2010.

Allied Health Professional Development Fund
There will be a new 2010-2011 funding cycle!
Should you have PD activities you wish to submit for consideration which have completed on or after April 1, 2010, please keep all receipts and proof of successful completion (as well as any other relevant documentation). A new cycle of funding is anticipated; details will be posted at www.ahpdf.ca as soon as these are made available. From April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010 only 52% of the funds allocated to Medical Laboratory Technologists were utilized. There is lots of room for qualified applicants to apply for funding so please take advantage of this grant for your educational needs.

OSMT members are invited to submit nominations for two (2) positions of Director-at-Large, each for a two-year term. The terms of office for the current Directors of Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8 also expire this year. There is also one (1) position currently available for a one-year term for District 7. Participation in the election of District Directors is determined by the District in which you live or work. If you are not sure of your boundaries, contact the OSMT office or visit our website to view the district map. Deadline for submission of nominations is Monday, August 2, 2010. Nomination forms may be obtained from the OSMT office at (416) 485-6768 or 1-800-461-6768.
