Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician
 
Insception Lifebank Cord Blood Program is Canada's largest and most experienced cord blood program in Canada. Partnered with leading hospitals such as Mount Sinai Hospital and The Scarborough Hospital, Insception operates a family cord blood banking business with an inventory in excess of 56,000 samples stored in a state-of-the-art cellular processing and storage facility.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician. As a member of the Laboratory, this role is responsible for support on a variety of operational tasks and activities within the Laboratory area including, but not limited to, the preparation of documentation, reagents and samples for processing.

This role is a permanent full-time position. The individual will be required to work on a rotating schedule, including weekends, during regular business hours. This position will be based at our head office in Mississauga, Ontario.

Key Accountabilities
All tasks will be completed in accordance with the relevant Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
  • Sample reception - FAX message retrieval, CBAF initiation, CBU and maternal serology reception, pre-processing and trouble shooting
  • Complete documentation of samples for processing and storage
  • Pre-processing activities – material prep, supplies labeling, worksheet prep, cassettes prep
  • Sample handling- prepare referred out test samples
  • BacT/Alert – sample loading, unloading, reporting printing
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • General laboratory clean-up and maintenance
  • Restock inner Lab inventory cabinet daily with in use supplies
  • Receive deliveries from couriers
  • Temperature Documentation of all monitored equipment and areas
  • Assist in Validations for new equipment/processes, as requested – performing and documentation
  • Other duties, as required
 Requirements:
Education
  • Successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program
  • OSMT Certification is required
Technical Skills / Business Knowledge
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience as a lab assistant is preferred
  • Previous hospital experience an asset
  • Awareness of laboratory hygiene and safety regulations and precautions

  • Excellent computer skills, including previous experience in the use of Laboratory Information System
  • Ability to work with others effectively in a team environment

  • Strong follow-through skills and focus on completion of tasks
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel

Lab IT Liaison/Coordinator
Facility: Karmanos In-Patient Units, Detroit MI

Summary:
Working with both lab operations and quality staff, is involved in all stages of lab IT related projects including software integration of third party products through communication, analysis, documentation, gathering requirements, testing, and training for KCI with Michigan Co-Tenancy Laboratories (MCL).  Coordinates, develops and maintains the scope and performance of laboratory information system projects including testing, documentation and policies/procedures development developed to support MCL owner and laboratory operations.
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree medical laboratory science, computer science, or similar technical health care field required.  Two plus years of technical experience in a clinical or analytical laboratory required.  Experience in a healthcare setting necessary.  Possess fundamental understanding of laboratory testing procedures.  Experience working on medical lab certification process including demonstrated understanding of current CAP standards, American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards, Joint Commission, FDA, and ISO 15189/17025, along with working knowledge of accreditation agencies and practices.  Experience with extensive analytical methods needed to solve complex problems.  Knowledge/experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) preferred.  Experience with Clinical Information Systems (Cerner), Registration (Cerner) and Patient Accounting Systems (Allscripts) implementation highly desired.
