OSMT Awards Guidelines
 
1. Trillium Award:

Presented in recognition of significant contribution to the advancement of the Society and in turn the profession of Medical Laboratory Technology in Ontario.

The criteria for the Trillium Award includes:

  • High profile within the medical laboratory technology community, at any level.
  • Promotes active involvement by other technologists.
  • Sets a high professional standard as a role model.
  • Must be a member of the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists.
  • Both the quality and quantity of contribution to the profession will be considered.
  • Not necessarily awarded each year.
  • The President shall present the award at the Annual General Meeting.

The award includes a certificate, the Trillium gold ring, and an honorary lifetime membership with the OSMT.

2. Richard Lafferty "Excellence in Writing" Award:

Presented to a person that has made an outstanding contribution to the OSMT Advocate.

3. MLT Student Award

The award is given to the graduating full-time clinical year student who has achieved distinguished academic status and who possesses the following attributes:

  • Outstanding performance both in theoretical and practical work.
  • Endeavours to reach a deeper level of knowledge and understanding than required.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates reliability through attendance and punctualilty.
  • Has earned the respect of his/her peers through cooperation and assistance.
  • Demonstrates maturity through a positive attitude.

This award includes a $100 honorarium and a certificate.

4. MLA/T Student Award

The award is given to the graduating full-time student who has achieved distinguished academic status and who possesses the following attributes:

  • Outstanding performance both in theoretical and practical work.
  • Endeavours to reach a deeper level of knowledge and understanding than required.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates reliability through attendance and punctuality.
  • Has earned the respect of his/her peers through cooperation and assistance.
  • Demonstrates maturity through a positive attitude.
Candidates must successfully challenge the OSMT MLA/T exam in order to be eligible.

This award includes a $100 honorarium and a certificate.
